Set up a new connection

Complete the following steps to set up a connection in Minitab Connect.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Enter a Name that identifies the connection.
  4. Select the API Gateway that you previously set up in Minitab Connect. If you have not set up a data gateway, select None.
  5. In PI Server URL, enter the URL for the OSIPI webapi server. Use the following format, with a trailing forward slash: https://osipi-test.com/piwebapi/
  6. Enter a Username and Password for your account. Then select Save .

After you save the connection, Connect displays options to import data into a new table. Start at step 4 of the following sections for more information on importing data to create a table.

Create a table with a server tag list

Complete the following steps to import PI tags and their metadata attributes from a PI server and create a new table in Connect.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Under Connection, select the OSIPI connection that you previously set up. If you have not previously set up a connection, select New Connection and follow the steps in the "Set up a new connection" section in this topic.
  4. On the left panel, enter a Name that identifies the table and select a Folder to save the table.
  5. Under Type of data to retrieve, select OSIsoft PI Server Tag List. Then select Next.
  6. From Data Server, select the OSIsoft PI data server that contains the tag.
  7. In Name, enter a string to return tags that match the string. Use a semi-colon (;) to separate multiple search strings. An asterisk (*) returns all tags.
  8. In Limit, enter the maximum number of tags to return.
  9. Select Next.
  10. Connect displays a list of metadata attributes for the tags. In Attributes, enter text to filter the list of attributes, then select the attributes to import.
  11. Select Save . If you go to the Prep Tool and select Run , Minitab Connect displays the imported data.
    Note

    If no data appears after you select Run, select Reset Config .

When you save the import, Connect creates a flow with the settings that you selected. For more information on how to schedule a flow and add more data processes to clean data, go to Overview of the Flow Tool .

Create a table with server tag data

Complete the following steps to import time series data from an PI tag and create a new table in Connect.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Under Connection, select the OSIPI connection that you previously set up. If you have not previously set up a connection, select New Connection and follow the steps in the "Set up a new connection" section in this topic.
  4. On the left panel, enter a Name that identifies the table and select a Folder to save the table.
  5. Under Type of data to retrieve, select OSIsoft PI Server Tag Data. Then select Next.
  6. From Retrieval Mode, select the type of data to import.
    Actual values
    Returns the actual recorded data points.
    Interpolated values
    Returns the data interpolated to produce the requested number of points.
    Plot values
    Returns data that is enhanced to display on a chart plot.
    Snapshot
    Returns the current snapshot value of the tag data.
    Summary statistics
    Returns calculated values for a variety of statistics, such as mean and standard deviation. You can calculate these statistics with multiple time periods.
  7. Select Next.
  8. In Select Tags, enter text to filter the list, then select the tags from which to import data.
  9. In Start Date/Time and End Date/Time, enter the range to import the data.
  10. The remaining options depend on the selection you made for Retrieval Mode.
    • If you selected Actual values, you can enter the maximum number of data points to import for any one tag in Number of Points.
    • If you selected Plot values, you can enter the number of intervals to plot over in Number of Intervals.
    • If you selected Summary statistics, you can specify the following options:
      Summary Types
      Select the statistics to import. You can enter text in the box to filter the list.
      Calculation Basis
      Specify the method Connect uses for the calculation of the statistics.
      Timestamp Calculation
      Specify how the summary duration periods line up.
      Summary Duration
      Determines the period of time for which the PI system calculates the statistics.
  11. Select Save . If you go to the Prep Tool and select Run , Minitab Connect displays the imported data.
    Note

    If no data appears after you select Run, select Reset Config .

Create a table with server calculation data

Complete the following steps to import tag data using the OSIsoft performance expression syntax and create a new table in Connect that contains calculated data values broken down by time intervals or summary types.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Under Connection, select the OSIPI connection that you previously set up. If you have not previously set up a connection, select New Connection and follow the steps in the "Set up a new connection" section in this topic.
  4. On the left panel, enter a Name that identifies the table and select a Folder to save the table.
  5. Under Type of data to retrieve, select OSIsoft PI server Calculation Data. Then select Next.
  6. From Data Server, select the OSIsoft PI data server that contains the tag. From Calculation Mode, specify how you want Connect to evaluate the performance expression.
    Calculate At Intervals
    Calculate values at regularly spaced intervals between the start time and end time.
    Calculate At Recorded Values
    Calculate values whenever actual data values exist between the start time and end time.
    Calculate At Times
    Calculate values at specific dates or times.
    Calculate Summaries
    Calculate summary statistics simultaneously over the selected date or time range.
  7. Select Next.
  8. In Expression, enter the OSIsoft performance equation statement.
  9. The remaining options vary based on the selection you made for Calculation Mode.
    Sample Interval
    Enter the time interval between samples.
    Start Date/Time and End Date/Time
    Enter the range to import the data.
    Times
    Enter a comma separated list of dates or times at which to import the data.
    Summary Types
    Select the statistics to import. You can enter text in the box to filter the list.
    Calculation Basis
    Specify the method Connect uses for the calculation of the statistics.
    Timestamp Calculation
    Specify how the summary duration periods line up.
    Summary Duration
    Determines the period of time for which the PI system calculates the statistics.
  10. Select Save . If you go to the Prep Tool and select Run , Minitab Connect displays the imported data.

Create a table with an asset framework

Complete the following steps to import element and attributes from a PI asset server and create a new table in Connect.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Under Connection, select the OSIPI connection that you previously set up. If you have not previously set up a connection, select New Connection and follow the steps in the "Set up a new connection" section in this topic.
  4. On the left panel, enter a Name that identifies the table and select a Folder to save the table.
  5. Under Type of data to retrieve, select OSIsoft PI Asset Framework. Then select Next.
  6. From AF Server, select the OSIsoft PI asset server that contains the elements and attributes. Then select Next.
  7. From AF Database, select the OSIsoft PI asset database that contains the elements and attributes. Then select Next.
  8. From Retrieval Mode, select the type of data to import.
    Metadata
    Returns only metadata about the elements and attributes.
    Actual values
    Returns the actual recorded data points.
    Interpolated values
    Returns the data interpolated to produce the requested number of points.
    Plot values
    Returns data that is enhanced to display on a chart plot.
    Snapshot
    Returns the current snapshot value of the tag data.
    Summary statistics

  9. In AF Elements, enter text to filter the list of elements, then select the elements from which you want to import data.
  10. Select Next.
  11. In AF Attributes, enter text to filter the list, then select the attributes from which you want to import data. If you selected Metadata or Snapshot for Retrieval Mode, select Save . Otherwise select Next.
  12. The options vary based on the selection you made for Calculation Mode.
    Start Date/Time and End Date/Time
    Enter the range to import the data.
    Number of Intervals
    Enter the number of intervals to plot over.
    Summary Types
    Select the statistics to import. You can enter text in the box to filter the list.
    Calculation Basis
    Specify the method Connect uses for the calculation of the statistics.

Create a table with asset framework event frames

Complete the following steps to select event frames from a PI asset server to import event frame metadata or attribute data into a table. When you import metadata, the table contains the metadata properties represented by columns. When you import attribute data, the table contains the requested data values for each event frame attribute.
  1. From the Home screen, select the Add button under Tables.
  2. In Datasets, enter OSIPI and select the connector from the results.
  3. Under Connection, select the OSIPI connection that you previously set up. If you have not previously set up a connection, select New Connection and follow the steps in the "Set up a new connection" section in this topic.
  4. On the left panel, enter a Name that identifies the table and select a Folder to save the table.
  5. Under Type of data to retrieve, select OSIsoft PI Asset Framework Event Frames. Then select Next.
  6. From AF Server, select the OSIsoft PI asset server that contains the elements and attributes. Then select Next.
  7. From AF Database, select the OSIsoft PI asset database that contains the elements and attributes. Then select Next.
  8. From Retrieval Mode, select the type of data to import.
    Metadata
    Returns only metadata about the elements and attributes.
    Actual values
    Returns the actual recorded data points.
    Interpolated values
    Returns the data interpolated to produce the requested number of points.
    Plot values
    Returns data that is enhanced to display on a chart plot.
    Snapshot
    Returns the current snapshot value of the tag data.

  9. In Name, enter a string to return tags that match the string. Use a semi-colon (;) to separate multiple search strings. An asterisk (*) returns all tags.
  10. From Search, select the option that returns results within the range that you specify.
    Active Between
    Includes all objects with a start time or end time in the range.
    Ending Between
    Includes all objects with an end time in the range.
    Starting Between
    Includes all objects with a start time in the range.
    Starting Between and In Progress
    Includes all objects with a start time in the range and end time is December 31, 9999.
    Entirely Between
    Includes all objects with a start and an end time in the range.
    Ending After
    Includes event frames with an end time that is greater than or equal to the end time that you specify.
    Ending Before
    Includes event frames with an end time that is less than or equal to the end time that you specify.
    Starting After
    Includes event frames with a start time that is greater than or equal to the start time that you specify.
    Starting After and In Progress
    Includes event frames with a start time that is greater than or equal to the start time that you specify and an end time that is December 31, 9999.
    Starting Before
    Includes event frames with a start time that is less than or equal to the start time that you specify.
    Starting Before and In Progress
    Includes event frames with a start time that is less than or equal to the start time that you specify and an end time that is December 31, 9999.
  11. In Start Date/Time and End Date/Time, enter the range to import the data. Then select Next.
  12. In Event Frames, enter text to filter the list, then select the event frames from which you want to import data.
  13. The remaining options vary based on the selection you made for Retrieval Mode.
    Number of Points
    Enter the maximum number of data points to import for any one event frame attribute.
    Number of Intervals
    Enter the number of intervals to plot over.
    Summary Types
    Select the statistics to import. You can enter text in the box to filter the list.
    Calculation Basis
    Specify the method Connect uses for the calculation of the statistics.
    Timestamp Calculation
    Specify how the summary duration periods line up.
