Shape data on a value stream map

Add data to shapes to provide details about the value stream. By default, value stream maps display cycle time data on process shapes and inventory data on inventory shapes. You can choose to track and display other value stream map data on shapes.

Add data to a shape

The Shape Data task pane contains a set of data fields where you can enter values for the selected shape. This data can appear with the shape on the map, depending on the display settings.

In this example, the shape data appears below the shape and in the task pane.

  1. Right-click the shape and choose Insert Shape Data.
  2. In the task pane, enter values.

Display additional data fields in the task pane

If the Shape Data task pane does not contain the data that you want to view, you can add, delete, or rearrange data fields.

  1. On the Shape Data task pane, click Select Data Fields.
  2. In the Configure Task Pane dialog box, under Available Data Fields, select a data field.
  3. Click the right arrow to move the selected data fields to Displayed on Task Pane.
  4. (Optional) To change the order of the data fields in the task pane, use the up arrow or the down arrow.
  5. (Optional) To divide the task pane into sections, in Available Data Fields, select the dashed line.
  6. Click OK.
The Shape Data task pane displays the new arrangement.

Example of adding a data field to the task pane

  1. On the Shape Data task pane, click Select Data Fields.
  2. In the Configure Task Pane dialog box, move Inventory Time to the list of items that display in the task pane.

Now, you can also add inventory time to inventory shapes.

Show or hide data field labels and data field values

When you display shape data, the data field label displays the name of the data field by default (Cycle Time). The data field value, or the value you enter in the data field (4 min), is also displayed.

To save space, you can hide the data field labels and data field values. This does not change a shape's data display settings.

  • To hide only the data field labels for a shape (Cycle Time), right-click the shape and choose Show Data Labels. Only the data field value (4 min) is shown. To select multiple shapes, press Shift or Ctrl.
  • To hide both data labels and data values for all of the shapes on the map, choose View > Shape Data and then unselect Show on Map.
