Lay out a form template

In design mode, use layout tables to organize items, such as text, controls, and data tables on a form. You can also add hyperlinks, pictures, and symbols to the form and insert page breaks so that the form prints as expected.

Insert a layout table

  1. In design mode, hold your pointer where you want to insert the layout table.
  2. On the form toolbar, click the Insert Layout Table button . If the form toolbar is not active, choose View > Toolbars > Form.
  3. Complete the dialog box.
  4. Click OK.

Nest tables

You can nest tables to align items on the form.

  1. Hold the pointer where you want to add the layout table.
  2. In the task pane, click Insert Layout Table.
  3. Click in the cell.
  4. In the task pane, click either Insert Layout Table or Insert Data Table.
  5. Complete the dialog box and then click OK.
The following example shows two data tables nested in the columns of a layout table.

Insert a page break

You can insert a page break to control how the form prints. For example, insert a page break before a graph to make sure the graph does not split across pages.

  • Click the location for the page break, and then choose Insert > Page Break.
  • To change the page break, drag it to a new location.
  • To see how the printed form will appear, choose Print > Preview.
