Example of Pairwise Slopes

The following example shows how to calculate the slopes between each possible pair of values from two columns.

  1. In the worksheet, in rows 1 to 4 of C1, type 3 5 2 6. In rows 1 to 4 of C2, type 1.1 2.0 1.1 3.0.
  2. Choose Stat > Nonparametrics > Pairwise Slopes.
  3. In Y variable, enter C1.
  4. In X variable, enter C2.
  5. In Store slopes in, enter C3.
  6. Select Store indices in, then enter C4 and C5.
  7. Click OK.

Results

Column C3 contains the pairwise slopes. Columns C4 and C5 indicate the row of the values that Minitab uses to calculate the slope. The slope between the points in rows 1 and 3 is undefined because the calculation involves dividing by 0. Because of this, Minitab stores a missing value.
