Both samples are in one column

Complete the following steps if your data are in one column and group identifiers are in a second column:

  1. Select Both samples are in one column.
  2. In Samples, enter the column that contains the samples from both groups.
    Tip

Click in Samples to see the columns that are available for your analysis.

  3. In Sample IDs, enter the column that indicates which group each observation corresponds to.

In this worksheet, Accidents contains the number of accidents per week that occur at two plants. Plant indicates whether the accidents occurred at plant A or plant B. For example, the first 3 rows of the worksheet shows that 0 accidents occurred at plant A during 3 different weeks.

    C1 C2
    Accidents Plant
    0 A
    0 A
    0 A
    1 B
  4. (Optional) If you have a column that indicates the frequency of each unique count, enter it in Frequency column.

In this worksheet, Accidents contains the number of accidents per week that occurred at two plants. Plant indicates whether the accidents occurred at plant A or B. Frequency indicates the number of instances each combination of accident and plant occurred. For example, the first row of the worksheet shows that, at Plant A, 0 accidents occurred during 3 different weeks.

    Accidents Plant Frequency
    0 A 3
    0 B 2
    1 A 1
    1 B 2

Each sample is in its own column

Complete the following steps when samples from one group are in a column and samples from the other group are in a different column:

  1. Select Each sample is in its own column.
  2. In Sample 1, enter the column that contains samples from one of the groups.
    Tip

Click in Sample 1 to see the columns that are available for your analysis.

  3. In Sample 2, enter the column that contains samples from the other group.

In this worksheet, Accidents A and Accidents B contain the number of accidents per week that occurred at each plant. For example, the first 3 rows of Accidents A show that, at Plant A, 0 accidents occurred during 3 different weeks.

  4. (Optional) If you have a column that indicates the frequency of each unique count, enter it in Frequency columns (optional).

In this worksheet, Accidents A and Accidents B contain the number of accidents per week that occurred at each plant. Frequency A and Frequency B indicate the number of instances that each combination of accident and plant occurred. For example, the first row of the worksheet shows that, at Plant A, 0 accidents during 3 different weeks and that, at Plant B, 0 accidents occurred during 2 different weeks.

    C1 C2 C3 C4

Summarized data

Complete the following steps if you have summary information that describes the sample, rather than actual values in the worksheet:

  1. Select Summarized data.
  2. Enter the Sample size and Total occurrences of each sample.
