Select how to display the order of the design points in the worksheet and whether to use coded units or uncoded units.

Order for all points in the worksheet

Minitab displays the design in run order (random order) or in standard order.
  • Run order for design: Run order is the order of the experimental runs.
  • Standard order for design: Standard order (also called Yates' order) is the typical order of the experimental runs.

Minitab sorts all the design columns, and also sorts non-design columns if the number of rows is less than or equal to the number of rows in the design. Columns that have more rows than the design cannot be reordered.

Specify any non-design columns that you do not want to reorder in the Columns not to reorder sub-dialog box.

Units for factors for screening, factorial, and response surface designs

Minitab displays the design in coded units or uncoded units.
  • Coded units: Minitab codes the low level of all factors to −1, the high level to +1, and center points to 0. Coded units allow you to compare the size of the coefficients (on a common scale) to determine which factor has the biggest impact on the response. Minitab always uses coded units for analysis, regardless of how you display the design.
  • Uncoded units: Minitab displays the levels that you assigned when you created or defined a design, in the worksheet. For example, with a factorial design, when you use:
    • Create Factorial Design, you can assign the levels in the Factors sub-dialog box.
    • Define Custom Factorial Design, you can assign the levels in the Low/High sub-dialog box.

Units for process variables for mixture designs

Minitab displays the design in coded units or uncoded units.
  • Coded: Minitab sets the low level of all variables to −1 and the high level to +1. Coded units allow you to compare the size of the coefficients (on a common scale) to determine which variable has the biggest impact on the response.
  • Uncoded: Minitab displays the levels that you assigned in the Process Variables sub-dialog box in the worksheet.

Units for components for mixture designs

Minitab displays the components in the design as amounts, proportions, or pseudocomponents.
  • Amount: Amounts are the units that you actually measure.

  • Proportions: By default, Minitab uses proportions to represent the components. The proportions must sum to 1.

  • Pseudocomponents: Pseudocomponents, in effect, rescale the constrained data area so the minimum allowable amount (the lower bound) of each component is zero.
