Example of Create Definitive Screening Design

A research team wants to screen 8 factors down to a smaller set for further experimentation. The team decides to have 2 replicates.

  1. Choose Stat > DOE > Screening > Create Screening Design.
  2. Under Type of Design, select Definitive Screening.
  3. From Number of factors, select 8.
  4. Click Designs.
  5. In Number of replicates, select 2 and click OK.
  6. Click Results. Select Summary table and design table.
  7. Click OK in each dialog box.

Interpret the results

The first table gives a summary of the design. For this example, the base design has 17 runs. The second replicate of the design makes the total number of runs 34.

The design table shows the experimental conditions or settings for each of the factors for the design points. For example, in the first run of the experiment, Factors B, E, and F are at the high setting. Factors A, C, D, and G are at the low setting. And factor H is at the middle setting.

Note

Minitab randomizes the design by default, so if you replicate this example your run order will not match the order in the example output.
