Complete the following steps if the measurement data for an Xbar-R chart are in one column.

From the drop-down list, select All observations for a chart are in one column.
Enter one or more columns of measurement data. If you enter more than one column, Minitab creates a separate Xbar-R chart for each column.
In Subgroup sizes, do one of the following:
- If all subgroups are the same size, enter the subgroup size (for example, 5).
- Enter a column of values that identifies which subgroup each measurement is from.

In this worksheet, Measurements contains the measurement data. Subgroup identifies which subgroup each measurement is from.

Complete the following steps if each row in the worksheet contains the measurement data for one subgroup.

From the drop-down list, select Observations for a subgroup are in one row of columns.
Enter the columns that contain the measurement data.

In this example, Measurement_1, Measurement_2, and Measurement_3 contain the measurement data. The data for subgroup 1 are in row 1, the data for subgroup 2 are in row 2, and so on.
