Convert dates to fiscal quarter and year

This macro converts a date column to a column containing the fiscal quarter and year. By default, the fiscal year starts in July.

Download the Macro

Be sure that Minitab knows where to find your downloaded macro. Choose File > Options > General. Under Macro location browse to the location where you save macro files.

Important

If you use an older web browser, when you click the Download button, the file may open in Quicktime, which shares the .mac file extension with Minitab macros. To save the macro, right-click the Download button and choose Save target as.

Required Inputs

  • A column of dates
  • An empty column where you would like the output to be stored

Optional Inputs

START K
Use to specify an initial month for the fiscal year other than the default (July). Specify 1 for January, 2 for February, and so on.
MONTH C
Use to specify a column where the fiscal month for each observation will be stored.

Running the Macro

Suppose your date column is in C1, and you would like the fiscal quarter-year to be stored in column C2. Your fiscal year starts in October. To run the macro, choose View > Command Line/History and type:

START 10.

Click Run.
