For the 1 variance test, the hypotheses are as follows.

Null hypothesis

H₀: σ² = σ²₀	The population variance (σ) equals the hypothesized variance (σ₀).

Alternative hypothesis

Select one of the following alternative hypotheses.

H₁: σ² ≠ σ²₀	The population variance (σ) differs from the hypothesized variance (σ₀).
H₁: σ² > σ²₀	The population variance (σ) is greater than the hypothesized variance (σ₀).
H₁: σ² < σ²₀	The population variance (σ) is less than the hypothesized variance (σ₀).
