Enter your data for Surface Plot

Complete the following steps to specify the variables that you want to graph.

This dialog box varies by the type of model that you used to fit the data.

Models from the Predictive Analytics Module

  1. Go to the results for a Linear Regression model or for a Binary Logistic Regression model, then select Surface Plot.
  2. Under Variables, indicate which variables that you want to include in the plots.
    • Select a pair of variables for a single plot: Display a graph for only one pair (x, y) of variables with the fitted response (z). You can determine which variable is plotted on the x-axis (horizontal axis) and on the y-axis (vertical axis).
    • Generate plots for all pairs of continuous variables: Display graphs for all possible combinations of (x, y) variables with the fitted response (z). With n variables, Minitab creates (n*(n-1))/2 plots. You can display the plots on one graph or display each plot on a separate page.

Models from the Stat menu except mixture designs

  1. To perform this analysis in Minitab, go to the menu that you used to fit the model, then choose Surface Plot. For example, if you fit a Poisson model, choose Stat > Regression > Poisson Regression > Surface Plot.
  2. From Response, select the response variable that you want to plot.
    Note

    Only response variables with up-to-date models from the same analysis are in the list. If you do not see a response that you want, refit the model. For more information, go to Stored model overview.

  3. Under Variables, indicate which variables that you want to include in the plots.
    • Select a pair of variables for a single plot: Display a graph for only one pair (x, y) of variables with the fitted response (z). You can determine which variable is plotted on the x-axis (horizontal axis) and on the y-axis (vertical axis).

Mixture designs

  1. To display a surface plot for a mixture design, choose Stat > DOE > Mixture > Contour/Surface Plots.
  2. Select Surface plot and then click the corresponding Setup button.
  3. From Response, select the response variable that you want to plot.
  4. Under Components or Process Variables, select the option that displays the type and number of variables that you want to plot. If an option is not available, your design does has an insufficient number of the type of variable that is required.
    Select a triplet of components for a single plot
    Choose to plot three components. You must select one component to display on each of the three axes.
    Generate plots for all triplets of components
    Choose to generate plots for all triplets of components. You must also choose whether you want to display all plots on separate panels of one graph or in separate graphs.
    Select a pair of numeric process variables for a single plot
    Choose to generate a contour plot for one pair of process variables. You must select one process variable to display on each of the two axes.
    Generate plots for all pairs of numeric process variables
    Choose to generate plots for all combinations of process variable levels. You must also choose whether you want to display all plots on separate panels of one graph or in separate graphs.
  5. Under Model Fitted in, choose whether you want to refit the model in Proportions or Pseudocomponents.
  6. Under Component Unit in Plot(s), choose whether you want to display the components in amounts, proportions, or pseudocomponents.
