Enter your data for Box-Cox Transformation for Time Series

Stat > Time Series > Box-Cox Transformation

Complete the following steps to specify the column of data that you want to analyze.

  1. In Series, enter a column of numeric data that were collected at regular intervals and recorded in time order.
  2. (Optional) In Seasonal period, enter the length of the seasonal pattern. For example, if you collect data monthly and the data have an yearly pattern, enter 12.
  3. In Transformation with parameter λ, specify a value for λ:
    Optimal λ
    Minitab estimates the optimal value for λ and uses the nearest rounded value to perform the transformation.
    λ = 0 (natural log)
    Use the natural log transformation to stabilize the variance.
    λ = 0.5 (square root)
    Use the square root transformation to stabilize the variance.
    λ between -5 and 5
    Enter a value for λ from the available range.
  4. Select to show the time series plots for the original series and the transformed series.
  5. (Optional) In Stamp column for time scale, enter a column that contains the x-axis labels for the time series plots.
  6. (Optional) In Store transformed series in, enter an existing column name or a column identifier to store the transformed data. Use the stored transformed series for other analyses and graphs.
