Define right censoring for Estimation Test Plan

Type of Censoring
Use the right-censoring options if you test each unit until a present amount of time elapses (time-censored) or until a preset proportion of failures occur (failure-censored). For more information on right-censored data, go to Data censoring.
  • Time censor at: Select to test each unit for a preset amount of time, then enter the censoring time. If your data are singly censored (all the test units run for the same fixed amount of time), enter one or more censoring times. Minitab displays a test plan for each censoring value that you enter.

If your data are multiply censored (the test units run for different amounts of time), enter one or more columns of censoring times. If you enter multiple columns, Minitab displays a test plan for each column that you enter. Each row in a column represents a group of test units. For more information, go to Data censoring and click "When should I use time censoring for test plans?".

  • Failure censor at percent of units failed: Select to test each unit until a preset proportion of failures occur, then enter the percent of failures. If your data are singly censored (all the test units run for the same fixed amount of time), enter one or more percents. Minitab displays a test plan for each censoring value that you enter.

If your data are multiply censored (the test units run for different amounts of time), enter one or more columns of percents. If you enter multiple columns, Minitab displays a test plan for each column that you enter. Each row in a column represents a group of test units. For more information, go to Data censoring and click "When should I use failure censoring for test plans?".

Allocation for Multiple Groups
Indicate the percentage of units to test in each group.
  • Equal percent per group: Test the same percentage of units for each group.
  • Percent of units run in each group: If you are using multiple censoring, select this option to indicate the percentage of units tested for each group of units with a different censoring value. Then enter a column that contains the percentages.
