Specify a hierarchical model with random terms for Fit General Linear Model

Stat > ANOVA > General Linear Model > Fit General Linear Model > Model

General linear models with random terms must be hierarchical. In a hierarchical model, all lower-order terms that comprise the higher-order terms also appear in the model. For example, a model that includes the interaction term A*B*C must also include the terms: A, B, C, A*B, A*C, and B*C to be hierarchical.

If you do not want to add the displayed terms, consider removing the higher-order terms, unless subject area knowledge suggests that you include them.

Note

For a model with random factors, you usually use Fit Mixed Effects Model so that you can use the Restricted Maximum Likelihood estimation method (REML).

Add terms at the end to make the model hierarchical
Minitab adds the displayed terms to the model to create a hierarchical model.
Cancel
Minitab does not add the terms but you must change the model.
