Select an alternative method for Automated Capability Analysis

Run Stat > Quality Tools > Capability Analysis > Automated. Select Select an Alternative Method after the Automated Capability Distribution Results table.

When you use Automated Capability Analysis to select a reasonable method to perform a capability analysis, Minitab Statistical Software produces results for other methods. Generally, you consider an alternative method when you have process knowledge that the alternative method is more compatible with the process. Suppose that the analysis selects the Weibull distribution for a process when a sample happens to have only positive values, but you know that the process routinely produces negative values. The Weibull distribution models positive data. Because the characteristics of the method are not compatible with the behavior of the process, consider other methods that fit the data well.

Perform the analysis

Select Select an Alternative Method in the results. A dialog box opens that shows a table with the results of the Anderson-Darling test. The dialog also includes a probability plot when the current selection is a parametric method. The dialog shows a histogram when the current selection is the nonparametric method.

To produce a capability analysis for an alternative method, select a row in the table. Select Display Results to create the results for that method.

To simultaneously view the results of two different methods, right-click the item to display in the Navigator and choose Open in Split View.
