Example of Bootstrapping for 1-sample function with a mean

A chemist for a pharmaceutical company wants to determine the reaction time for a newly developed antacid.

  1. Open the sample data, AntacidReactionTime.MTW.
  2. Choose Calc > Resampling > Bootstrapping for 1-Sample Function.
  3. In Statistic, select Mean.
  4. In Sample, enter Time.
  5. Click Options. Enter 1 in Base for random number generator.
    Note

Using Base for random number generator ensures that your results match the example.

  6. Click OK in each dialog box.

Interpret the results

The 95% CI indicates that the chemist can be 95% confident that the population mean of the reaction time is between approximately 9.9 minutes and 12.9 minutes. The histogram shows that the bootstrap distribution appears to be normal, so the chemist can trust the results.
