Paired Equivalence Test for Demonstrate Device Equivalence

Use Paired Equivalence Test to evaluate whether the mean of a test population is equivalent to the mean of a reference population when you have paired (dependent) observations.

This example applies to the Measurement System Analysis Module. For more information, go to www.minitab.com/measurement-system-analysis-module.

Example

For example, an analyst wants to test whether a new glucose meter is equivalent to a currently approved glucose meter. The analyst measures blood glucose twice in each person, once with the new (test) meter and once with the currently approved (reference) meter. The measurements are paired data (dependent observations) for each person. For more information on paired measurements, go to How are independent and dependent samples different?.

In this worksheet, New Device contains data from the test meter, and Current Device contains data from the reference meter.

How-to

  1. Choose Solutions Modules > Capabilities > Measurement System Analysis, then select Launch.
  2. Under Bias Study, select Select a Bias Study.
  3. Select Demonstrate device equivalence, then click OK.
  4. Select Paired Equivalence Test, then click OK.
  5. In Test sample, enter the column that contains the test data. The test sample is often from a new or unproven product or process.
  6. In Reference sample, enter a corresponding column that contains the reference data. The reference sample is often from a proven product or process.
  7. From the alternative hypothesis dropdown menu, select Lower limit < test mean - reference mean < upper limit to test whether the difference between the population means is within the limits that you specify.
  8. In Lower limit, enter the lower limit to consider the measurements equivalent.
  9. In Upper limit, enter the upper limit to consider the measurements equivalent.
  10. Click OK.
