Example of formatting cells that contain outliers

A medical researcher collects the height, weight, gender, smoking preference, and activity level for a group of college students, and then measures their resting pulse rates and pulse rates after running. The researcher uses conditional formatting to find outliers in pulse rates after running.

  1. Open the sample data, PulseRates.MTW.
  2. Click in the Pulse2 column.
  3. Right-click, then choose Conditional Formatting > Statistical > Outlier.
  4. Click OK.

The cells that contain outliers are shaded red.
