Hypotheses for Tolerance Intervals (Normal Distribution)

Minitab provides tolerance intervals for the normal method and the nonparametric method. If your data follow a normal distribution, you can use the normal method which is more precise and generally requires smaller sample sizes than the nonparametric method. Use the p-values from the normality test to determine whether you can use the results for the normal method.

For a normality test, the hypotheses are as follows:
  • H0: The data follow a normal distribution.
  • H1: The data do not follow a normal distribution.
