For the 1 variance test, the hypotheses are as follows.
 Null hypothesis

H_{0}: σ^{2} = σ^{2}_{0}
The population variance (σ) equals the hypothesized variance (σ_{0}).
 Alternative hypothesis
 Select one of the following alternative hypotheses.
H_{1}: σ^{2} ≠ σ^{2}_{0}
The population variance (σ) differs from the hypothesized variance (σ_{0}).
H_{1}: σ^{2} > σ^{2}_{0}
The population variance (σ) is greater than the hypothesized variance (σ_{0}).
H_{1}: σ^{2} < σ^{2}_{0}
The population variance (σ) is less than the hypothesized variance (σ_{0}).
