Overview for Comparisons

Use Comparisons after you have performed Fit General Linear Model or Fit Mixed Effects Model to determine whether the differences between group means are statistically significant and to estimate the differences.

For example, a researcher is interested in examining the effects of subject area and the highest degree obtained on the salary of college professors. After fitting a general linear model, the researcher uses Comparisons to explore the salary differences by subject area.

This analysis uses a model that you fit and that Minitab automatically stores in your worksheet. For more information, go to Stored model overview.

Where to find this analysis

To compare group means, choose Stat > ANOVA > General Linear Model > Comparisons or Stat > ANOVA > Mixed Effects Model > Comparisons.

When to use an alternate analysis

If you have one categorical factor, you can also compare group means with One-Way ANOVA.
