What is a botched run?

In a Minitab 2-level designed experiment, a botched run occurs when the actual value of a factor setting differs from the planned factor setting. For example, you design a 2-level experiment in which one of the factors is temperature (planned settings of 500° and 300°). However, during the experiment, the temperature is accidentally set at 475° for one run. This is a botched run.

You don't have to discard data from a botched run; you can change the worksheet to accurately show the level for that run (Temp = 475). Minitab can analyze data with botched runs for most types of designs. For these cases, Minitab prints an alias table with partial aliasing. Minitab cannot analyze Taguchi designs with botched runs.
