Use
Expanded Gage R&R
Study to assess the variation in your measurement system when one or more of the following conditions exist:
- You have more than two factors, for example, operator, gage, and part.
- You want to declare some factors as fixed factors.
- You have both crossed and nested factors.
- You have an unbalanced design.
For example, an engineer selects 10 parts that represent the expected range of the process variation. Also, each part is fitted with one of two sub-components. The two sub-components are a fixed factor. The engineer wants to determine whether the sub-components introduce part-to-part variability. For the study, 3 operators measured the 10 parts, 4 times per part (2 times with each sub-component), in random order.

When to use an alternate analysis
- To analyze your measurement system when you have crossed data and a balanced design, use Crossed Gage R&R
Study.
- To analyze your measurement system when you have nested data and a balanced design, use Nested Gage R&R
Study.
