Two sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test of the underlying distributions

This macro performs a 2-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test of the underlying distributions. The null hypothesis is that the distributions are the same. The two samples must be stored in separate columns of the active worksheet.

Download the Macro

Be sure that Minitab knows where to find your downloaded macro. Choose Tools > Options > General. Under Macro location browse to the location where you save macro files.

Important

If you use an older web browser, when you click the Download button, the file may open in Quicktime, which shares the .mac file extension with Minitab macros. To save the macro, right-click the Download button and choose Save target as.

Required Inputs

  • Two columns of numeric samples. Sample sizes of at least 6 are required. Because the macro makes use of an approximate critical value, sample sizes greater than12 are recommended.
    Note

    For large sample sizes, the macro will take longer to complete. For two samples of size 100, the macro required about 4 sec on a PC with a 2.4 GHz processor and 3 GB of RAM. Two samples of size 1000 required approximately 35 sec.

Optional Inputs

ALPHA K
Use to specify a significance level other than the default of 0.05.

Running the Macro

Suppose the samples are stored in columns C1 and C2 and you want to perform the test at alpha=0.01. To run the macro, choose Edit > Command Line Editor and type:

%KSTWO C1 C2;
ALPHA 0.01.
