Setup tab for the SPC Tool

Use the Setup tab to generate a control chart or capability analysis.

Control chart setup

For each control chart, specify which chart you want to create, which variable to plot, the subgroup size, and the tests to use.
Configuration
In the first dropdown box, select Current Config or the view of the data that you want to analyze.
Note

The current configuration selection represents the active view of data in the Prep Tool . Select Reset Config in the Prep Tool to see all the data in the table.

Statistic
Choose which control chart to create.
Variable
Enter the field that contains the data to plot.
Subgroup sizes
Select one of the following:
  • By column: Enter the table field that contains subgroup identifiers.
  • By value: If all subgroups are the same size, enter the subgroup size (for example, 5).

Capability analysis setup

Specify the data, subgroup size, and specification limits to use for the capability analysis.
Configuration
In the first dropdown box, select Current Config or the view of the data that you want to analyze.

Statistic
Choose the capability analysis.
Variable
Enter the field that contains that data to analyze.
  • For a binomial capability analysis, in Defectives, enter the field that contains a count of defective items.
  • For a Poisson capability analysis, in Defects, enter the field that contains a count of defects.
Subgroup sizes
Select one of the following:
  • By column: Enter the table field that contains subgroup identifiers.
  • By value: If all subgroups are the same size, enter the subgroup size (for example, 5).
Lower spec and Upper spec
Enter the minimum and/or maximum acceptable value for the product or service.

To perform a capability analysis with continuous data, you must enter a lower specification limit, an upper specification limit, or both specifications.
