Common tasks with dashboards

Learn about common tasks you can do with the Dashboard.

Create a new dashboard

Create a new dashboard to display data views and create graphs of your project. You can also share the dashboard with others in your organization whether or not they have a Minitab Connect account.

  1. From the Home screen , select the Minitab Connect button to open the Navigation pane. Under Dashboards, select Add New Dashboard. Or, from the Home screen, select the Add button under Dashboards.
  2. From the Navigation Pane, select Data to associate the dashboard with a data view.
  3. From the Navigation Pane, select Assets to create graphs and control charts for the dashboard. For more information about assets, go to Navigation pane and select "Assets".
  4. From the Navigation Pane, select Navigator to add new pages to the dashboard.
  5. Select Save .
    1. Under Dashboard Name, enter a name to identify the new dashboard.
    2. Under Data Source, select the folder to contain the dashboard.
  6. Select Save.

Add a filter to your dashboard

By adding a filter to the dashboard, you can easily narrow the number range, date range, or number of categories without creating a specific data view. Follow these instructions to add a dashboard filter.

  1. With the dashboard open, select Assets and go to Controls.
  2. Select the filter control that you want to add. You must select Present to adjust a filter control. These changes only exist temporarily during a session. When you select Edit, the data will reset to include the entire range of possible data values.
    • Select Number Range Slicer to filter the dashboard by a range for one or more numeric variables. Use the endpoints of the slider to narrow or widen the range. You can use one slider for multiple variables, or create separate silders for each variable.
    • Select Date Range Slicer to filter the dashboard by a date for a date/time variable. Use the Default control on the pane on the right side of the screen to select a date range.
    • Select Category Slicer to filter the dashboard by one or more levels of a categorical variable. You can specify to select multiple levels on the Category Slicer pane on the right side of the screen.
  3. For each filter, use the right pane to specify the variable to use for the range or group. Once you select a variable, the title of the filter matches the variable. Use the Title control on the pane on the right side of the screen to change the title.

Share the dashboard

You can easily share your custom dashboard with anyone inside of your organization. Follow these instructions to access the dashboard URLs.

  1. Select the ellipsis in the top right corner.
  2. Select Share .
  3. You have the option to share either an internal URL or public URL.
    • You can share an Internal Link with anyone that has a Connect subscription.
    • If your use role is Admin or Developer, you can share a Public Link with anyone, even if they don't have a Connect login, because Connect appends a restricted apikey to the URL. Anybody with the URL will be able to view the dashboard. Viewing requires no authentication. Before distributing the URL, make sure you are permitted to share the data and visualizations publicly.

Download data as a Minitab worksheet

While in Present mode, you can download the data used for an asset as a Minitab worksheet (.mwx). Select Download in the top right corner of the asset. The worksheet includes all columns of the data view, not just the ones used for the asset.
Note

If you apply a filter to the asset, the worksheet includes only the rows that meet the filter conditions.
