Calculate Spearman's rank correlation coefficient when you have numeric data

You can use Correlation to obtain Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Suppose that the variables you want to correlate are in columns C1 and C2.

  1. Choose Stat > Basic Statistics > Correlation.
  2. In Variables, enter c1 c2.
  3. Click Options. In Method, select Spearman correlation.
  4. Click OK in each dialog box.

Calculate Spearman's rank correlation coefficient when you have ordinal text data

Suppose that the variables you want to correlate are in columns C1 and C2:

  1. Choose Stat > Tables > Cross Tabulation and Chi-Square.
  2. In Rows, enter C1. In Columns, enter C2.
  3. Click Other Stats.
  4. Check Correlation coefficients for ordinal categories.
  5. Click OK in each dialog box.
Minitab displays a value for Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (Spearman's rho).
