Open or disable project backup files (BAK)

Minitab automatically saves a single backup copy of a project each time that you open the project. A backup file contains the contents of the project as they were the last time you opened the project successfully. The backup file has a .bak extension and is the folder where the original file is saved.

Open a backup file

Choose File > Open.
Select All (*.*) as the file type.
Browse to the folder where the original file is saved.
Double-click the file that has .BAK appended to the original file name.
For example, if the original project file Defects.MPX is saved in C:\My_Files, double-click Defects.MPX.BAK in C:\My_Files to retrieve the backup.

Disable automatic backup files

Choose File > Options > System.
Deselect Save project backup file (.BAK) when opening project.
Click OK.
