Calculate the sample size required to achieve a specified maximum acceptable percentage of population in interval

Complete the following steps to specify the data for the sample size calculation.

  1. Select Calculate sample sizes.
  2. In Minimum percentage of population in interval, enter the minimum percentage of the population that you want a two-sided tolerance interval to include, or a one-sided interval to be greater than (lower bound) or less than (upper bound).
  3. In Maximum acceptable percentages of population in interval (p*), enter the maximum percentage of the population that you want a two-sided tolerance interval to include, or a one-sided interval to be greater than (lower bound) or less than (upper bound).
    Tip

    If you enter multiple values into a field, separate the values with a space. You can also use shorthand notation to indicate multiple values. For example, you can enter 10:40/5 to indicate sample sizes from 10 to 40 in increments of 5.

  3. In Sample sizes, enter the number of observations for each sample. To assess the effect of different sample sizes, enter multiple values. Larger sample sizes make the tolerance interval more precise.
