Example of Rank

An engineer wants to study the relationship between a specific machine setting and the amount of energy that the machine consumes, in order to determine an efficient operating setting. The engineer collects data on the machine setting and the energy consumption during the manufacturing process.

The engineer ranks the energy consumption measurements to determine which machine setting consumes the least amount of energy.

  1. Open the sample data, MachineSettings.MTW.
  2. Choose Data > Rank.
  3. In Rank data in, enter Energy Consumption.
  4. In Store ranks in, type Ranks.
  5. Click OK.

Results

The ranks are in column C3. A machine setting of 21.70 has the lowest energy consumption because the rank is 1.0.
