Insert related documents (desktop app only)

You can insert a related document as a copy of file, or you can insert a related document as a link to a file or a web page. You can also insert Minitab projects for quick access to your data analysis.

Insert a related document as a copy or a link

  1. Choose Insert > Related Document.
  2. Enter the name of the file to display in your project.
  3. Select File. Browse to the file to insert and select it. Then, select Open.
  4. Under File Options, choose one of the following options.
    • Save a copy of the file in the project
      • Allows you to make changes to the related document without affecting the original file.
      • Allows you to make changes to the original file without affecting the related document.
      • Always provides access to the related document, even if the original file is moved or deleted.
    • Create a link to the external file
      • Ensures that the related document and the original file are always the same.
      • Maintains a small project file size.
  5. Select OK.
After you insert a related document, you can open and edit it from your project by double-clicking it in the roadmap. Editing the saved copy of the file does not affect the original file. If you created a link to the external file, your edits are always saved to the latest version of the file.

Insert a web page as a related document

  1. Choose Insert > Related Document.
  2. Enter the name of the web page to display in your project.
  3. Enter the web address.
  4. Select OK. Workspace creates a link to the web page.

Insert a Minitab project

You can open a Minitab project from Workspace, analyze your data, save your work, and exit Minitab without having to close your Workspace project. The Minitab project is inserted into your roadmap for quick access, similar to a related document.
  1. Choose Insert > Minitab Project File. Workspace opens a Minitab project and adds it to your Workspace project.
  2. Use Minitab to analyze your data, then save your work and exit Minitab. Workspace saves the latest version of your Minitab project.
    Note

When you change the displayed name of a Minitab project in the roadmap, the new name is only updated in Workspace, not in Minitab.
