Confidence intervals for the mean or median using bootstrap methods

This macro calculates nonparametric confidence intervals on the mean and median of a sample by using a bootstrapping approach.

Download the Macro

Be sure that Minitab knows where to find your downloaded macro. Choose Tools > Options > General. Under Macro location browse to the location where you save macro files.

If you use an older web browser, when you click the Download button, the file may open in Quicktime, which shares the .mac file extension with Minitab macros. To save the macro, right-click the Download button and choose Save target as.

Required Inputs

  • A column of sample numeric data
  • The number of iterations used to estimate the confidence interval (usually larger than 1000)
  • Whether to estimate the mean (1) or median (2)
  • Significance level

Running the Macro

Suppose the sample (data) column is in C1, and you want to estimate a confidence interval for the mean (1) based on 1000 iterations using 95% confidence intervals (alpha of 0.05). To run the macro, choose Edit > Command Line Editor and type:

%BOOTSTRAP C1 1000 1 0.05
