Menus and dialog boxes do not properly display in desktop product

If some menus and dialog boxes do not properly display in your Minitab desktop product, you may see this message: Unable to open dialog. A necessary script component could not be initialized. Most likely, VBScript is not enabled on your machine due to Microsoft's plan to deprecate the script. For more information on Microsoft's deprecation timeline, see the Windows IT Pro Blog.

To address this issue, you must enable the VBScript optional component on your machine.

  1. Open the command prompt or PowerShell as an adminstrator.
  2. Check if VBScript is enabled on your machine. At the command prompt, enter:
    DISM /Online /Get-Capabilities

If VBScript is not enabled, the status is VBSCRIPT~~~~State: Not Present.

  3. To enable VBScript, at the command prompt enter:
    DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:VBSCRIPT~~~~

    Note

This process may take several minutes to complete.

  4. Repeat step 2 to verify that VBscript is enabled. When it is enabled, the status is VBSCRIPT~~~~State: Installed.
