Cannot retrieve license information error

When you start Minitab 16 or Quality Companion 3, you may get the following error:

Cannot retrieve license information. Make sure the product is properly installed.

The following solution might resolve the error, but it does not work for all cases. If it does not work for you or you are not comfortable following the suggested steps, please contact Technical Support. Also, if you are using the Windows 8.1 operating system, please review the information in Topic ID 2744 first.

  1. Click OK to close the error message.
  2. Download this file: CRLI.bat.
  3. Run the CRLI.bat file.
    • If you are using Windows XP, double-click on the downloaded file.
    • If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8, right-click on the downloaded file and select Run As Administrator.
  4. The message within the Sentinel HASP Run-time Environment Installer window will eventually state Operation successfully completed. Click OK. Close the window if it does not close automatically.
  5. Start Minitab 16 or Quality Companion 3.
