My computer has two or more MAC addresses. Which one should I use to fulfill a license?

If a Windows computer has multiple MAC addresses, choose the MAC address of a network card that is always enabled. If the network card that the license file is attached to becomes disabled, the Minitab License Manager may not start or run properly. If that happens, users may experience problems starting their software. You can view the MAC addresses that the License Manager currently recognizes by using lmtools.exe.
  1. Open lmtools.exe from the license manager's installation directory.
    Note

The lmtools.exe file is installed when the Minitab License Manager is installed. By default, the file is in the following location.

    • 64-bit version: C:\Program Files\Minitab\License Manager
    • 32-bit version: C:\Program Files (x86)\Minitab\License Manager

  2. Navigate to the System Settings tab.
  3. Note the available MAC addresses in the Ethernet Address field. The MAC addresses appear in quotation marks with a space between them.
    Note

When you select a MAC address, be aware of power settings or user profiles on your computer that may disable network cards. For example, some laptops disable wired network connections when they are removed from a docking station. For more information on getting a computer's MAC address, go to Topic ID 2084.
