After you complete a SWOT Analysis analysis, you will have a high-level understanding of what areas of your organization are performing optimally and what areas need to be adjusted.

The SWOT Analysis forms answer the following questions.
  • What do we do better than our competitors?
  • What do our competitors do better than us?
  • What new trends can increase our market share?
  • What emerging markets might jeopardize our success?

How-to

  1. As a group, consider the following aspects of your organization and enter the information into the appropriate cells in the matrix.
    • Strengths: Factors that make success easy. Examples include strong brand recognition, a loyal customer base, or a positive corporate culture.
    • Weaknesses: Factors that make success difficult. Examples include poor customer service, high employee turnover, or lack of budget.
    • Opportunities: Factors that represent potential growth. Examples include a change in demographics, advances in technology, or a strong economy.
    • Threats: Factors that represent risk. Examples include rising cost of materials, weakening demand, or inflation.
  2. Use the matrix to explore strategies to leverage your strengths, eliminate weaknesses, capitalize on opportunities, and mitigate threats.
