Connect data-entry tables

When you want the data that users enter in data-entry tables to update automatically throughout the project and in the dashboard, you connect the data-entry table to a data table.
At a high level, this is a two-step process:
  • Step 1: Connect the data-entry table to the data table where the data field is located.
  • Step 2: Connect each form control in the data-entry table to a data field in the data table.

The following steps show how to connect a data-entry table in a form to the Team Members data table.

  1. Insert the data-entry table.
    1. On the Form tab, click the Data-Entry Table button.
    2. In the Insert Data-Entry Table dialog box, enter a name and the number of columns.
    3. Under Data, choose Connect the repeating rows to a data table and click Select Data Table.
    4. In the Data Connection Setup dialog box, choose Team Members, and then click OK.
    5. Click OK.
  2. Connect each form control in the data-entry table to their data field definitions.
    1. In design mode, double-click the Text Box control in the data-entry table.
    2. In the Text Box Properties dialog box, under Data, choose Connect the form control to a data field, and then click Select Data Field.
    3. In the Data Connection Setup dialog box, choose Name, and then click OK. Because you already connected the data-entry table to Team Member, only the Team Member data field definitions appear.
    4. Connect the remaining controls in the data-entry table to their corresponding data field definitions in the Team Member data table.
  3. Test the data-entry table in fill-out mode by adding rows and entering data. The data-entry table is connected if you can select existing data when you add a new row.
