Convert and Upload Desktop Projects

Quality Companion 3 users can convert projects for use with Companion. Companion desktop app users can upload desktop projects to their Companion subscription.

Convert Quality Companion 3 projects to your Companion subscription

If you used Quality Companion to create projects before you signed up for a Companion subscription, your projects are converted when you upload them to your subscription.

  1. In the Companion desktop app, choose File > Account and sign in to your Companion subscription.
  2. Choose File > Open > Computer.
  3. Click Upload Projects and choose the Quality Companion 3 project to open.
  4. Wait while Companion converts the Quality Companion 3 project, and then click Done.
  5. Choose File > Open > Project Repository.
  6. Click Browse and open the converted project and review the changes. For details, open the Conversion Information form in the Roadmap.
Note

Because Companion's management section is controlled in the design center, the Quality Companion 3 management content is preserved in the Archived Items folder for reference.

Global and local data fields
When you have a Companion subscription, data is managed "globally" in the design center. In Quality Companion 3, data is managed "locally" within the project. During the conversion, any local data field that matches both the name and the properties of a global data field is mapped and instantly available to the dashboard. Any local data field that does not map to a global data field is preserved as a local data field in the converted project. To manage and include a local data field in dashboard reports, a data architect must recreate it as a global data field in the design center.
Tip

To see all the data fields in the project, open the Companion desktop app and choose File > Data Definitions. Choose an option from Show definitions to see only global or only local data fields.
