Overview for Binomial Capability Analysis

Use Binomial Capability Analysis to determine whether the percentage of defective items meets customer requirements. Use when each item is classified into one of two categories, such as pass or fail. Using this analysis, you can do the following:

  • Determine whether the process is in control.
  • Estimate the percentage of defective items for each sample and across all samples (%defective).
  • Assess whether the percentage of defectives is stable.

For example, the manager of a customer call center wants to analyze how capable the representatives are in answering phone calls before the calls are redirected to voice mail. The manager uses binomial capability analysis to determine whether the rate of calls that are unanswered then redirected is stable and below 20%.

Where to find this analysis

To perform binomial capability analysis, choose Stat > Quality Tools > Capability Analysis > Binomial.

When to use an alternate analysis

If you have counts of the number of defects on each item, use Poisson Capability Analysis to evaluate the defects per unit.
