Create a dynamic filter

There are two types of dynamic filters: one that uses an existing list of values and one that uses a list that you create.

Use an existing list of values (list field)

To create a dynamic filter that uses an existing list of values, you must select a list field. The field's list values become the filter options that users can select in the Dashboard report.

  1. Choose Manage > Edit Report.
  2. In edit mode, beside Filters, click the edit button .
  3. In the filter editor, click the Add Dynamic Filter button.
  4. Enter a name for the filter.
  5. From Field, click the drop-down list and select a list field.
    In this example, the existing values for the list field, Region, populate the filter editor.
  6. (Optional) To make a value the default selection when a user applies the filter, select the checkbox beside it.
  7. (Optional) To reorder the list of values, click the row's gripper and drag the row to a new location.
In the report, the existing values for Region are displayed as filter options.

Use a list you create (single-value field)

To create a dynamic filter that uses a list you create, you must select a single-value data field, and then define a list of criteria. The criteria you define become the filter options that users can select in the Dashboard report.

  1. Choose Manage > Edit Report.
  2. In edit mode, beside Filters, click the edit button .
  3. In the filter editor, click the Add Dynamic Filter button.
  4. Enter a name for the filter.
  5. From Field, click the drop-down list and select a single-value data field.
  6. Click Select a condition, enter a value for the condition, and enter a name to display for the filter option. If necessary, add more conditions. For a list of filter conditions, see Filter criteria.
    In this example, multiple conditions are defined for Estimated Project Savings.
  7. (Optional) To make a value the default selection when a user applies the filter, select the checkbox beside it.
  8. (Optional) To reorder the list of values, click the row's gripper and drag the row to a new location.
In the report, the defined criteria for Estimated Project Savings are displayed as filter options.

About the My Projects filter

The My Projects filter is a dynamic filter in the Dashboard. It contains a default list of values that you cannot change:
  • Projects I Own
  • Shared with Me (Editor)
  • Shared with Me (Viewer)
However, you can change whether the My Projects filter is applied and which values are selected by default.
