Create a simple pie chart

You can create a graph like the following example using data arranged in different layouts in the worksheet.

This pie chart shows the proportion of employees in each job classifcation.

To create a simple pie chart, choose the layout option that matches your worksheet.

Option 1

Follow these steps if your worksheet contains a column of summarized data and a corresponding column of categorical data.

  1. Choose Graph > Pie Chart.
  2. Choose Chart values from a table.
  3. Under Categorical variable, enter the column of categorical data. In the example, Job Classifications is the categorical variable.
  4. Under Summary variables, enter the column of summarized data. In the example, Counts is the summary variable.
  5. Click OK.

Option 2

Follow these steps if your worksheet contains a column of raw categorical data and each row is an observation. Minitab graphs the count of each value in the column.

  1. Choose Graph > Pie Chart.
  2. Choose Chart counts of unique values.
  3. Under Categorical variables, enter a column of categorical data. In the example, Job Classifications is the categorical variable.
