Create a bar chart of summarized data in a single column: simple

Complete the following steps to create a bar chart that displays summarized data for groups that are defined by values in a categorical variable. If your data are arranged differently, go to Choose a bar chart.

  1. Open the dialog box.
    • Mac: Choose Graphs > Bar Chart > Summarized values for each category in a table > Single Column of Values: Simple.
    • PC: Choose GRAPHS > Bar Chart > Summarized Data > Single Column of Values: Simple.
  2. In Summary variable, enter the column of summary data that you want to graph.
  3. In Categorical variable, enter the column of categorical data that defines the groups.
In the following worksheet, Count is the summary variable and contains the number of customers who prefer a type of chocolate. Preference is the categorical variable and indicates the type of chocolate that corresponds to each count. The graph shows the counts of chocolate preferences.
