Overview for Generate Random Data

Use Generate Random Data to generate samples of random data from the distribution of your choice. Minitab offers several common distributions such as the normal distribution and the Poisson distribution.

You can use random data to demonstrate an analysis that you have not yet collected data for. You can also use random data to investigate a hypothetical situation using likely historical parameters.

For example, to simulate a response for an experiment, an engineer generates 10 rows of random data from a normal distribution. The engineer specifies a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 2.
