Enter your data for Cross Tabulation and Chi-Square (Data tab)

On the Data tab of the Cross Tabulation and Chi-Square dialog box, select the option that best describes your data.

Raw data (categorical variables)

Complete the following steps if the categorical data are entered as individual observations in the worksheet.

  1. From the data drop-down list, select Raw data (categorical variables).
  2. In Rows, enter the column that contains the categories that define the rows of the table.
  3. In Columns, enter the column that contains the categories that define the columns of the table.
In this worksheet, Gender contains the Male and Female categories, which will be the rows in the cross tabulation table. Preference contains the Dark, Milk, and White chocolate categories, which will be in the columns in the cross tabulation table.

Summarized data in a two-way table

Complete the following steps if you have summarized, observed counts for the categorical data.

  1. From the data drop-down list, select Summarized data in a two-way table.
  2. In Columns containing the table, enter the columns that contain the summarized counts.
  3. In Row labels (optional column), enter the column that contains the category identifiers.
In this worksheet, 1st shift, 2nd shift, and 3rd shift are the table of columns that contain the counts of rejected products for each work shift. Machine ID is the column of row labels and indicates which machine manufactured the rejected products.
